Statistics of Legal Need in the Pioneer Valley
According to the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, the Pioneer Valley region of Western Massachusetts consists of two counties, Hampden County and Hampshire County, and is home to 617,266 residents.1 Of those 617,266 residents, 12.8% are below the poverty level 2 and therefore are eligible for traditional free legal services. However, another 40% of residents in this region earn between 126% - 300% of the poverty level3, and will therefore be ineligible for traditional free legal services. As a result, 40% of residents in the Pioneer Valley are often left with little or no resources in which to turn to.
It is this 40% of the Pioneer Valley's population to whom LRAC seeks to outreach to, as a means to provide equal access to our justice system, and to empower community members and leaders through legal education seminars and workshops.
Helping People - Helping the Community: Let's work together to build stronger relationships and communities in the Pioneer Valley!!
